Field Trial Agronomist, DL Seeds Morden

DL Seeds is currently seeking a mature individual to fill a Field Trial Agronomist position within the Canola Breeding program. The position is full-time permanent and based out of Morden, Manitoba.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Research and field activities for DL Seeds, Canola Breeding program including: seedbed preparation, seed setup, seed treating, plot seeding, field staking, cultivating, spraying, data collection, swathing, harvesting and post-harvest activities.
  • Provide agronomical advice, resources, and guidance to agronomy team to assist in running successful field research trials to meet company and breeding goals.
  • Collect agronomic data and submit in a timely fashion.
  • Review and amend standard operation procedures (SOPs) and safe work procedures (SWPs) as required on a regular basis.
  • Operate small plot research equipment including tractor, seeder, sprayer, swather, and combine.
  • Provide technical support for DL Seeds commercial distributors.

To be considered for this position, you should:

  • Have a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and/or equivalent knowledge and experience in agronomy.
  • Several years with research plot experience would be an asset
  • Have strong working knowledge of canola crop production in Western Canada.
  • Possess good interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
  • Possess, or be able to obtain Class 3 driver's license. Comfortable with hauling equipment on trailers
  • Excellent organizational, time management skills and team interactive skills
  • Work with minimum supervision and as part of a team.

Salary will be competitive, based on experience.

DL Seeds Inc. facilities are located at 25028 Road 17, Off Highway #3 near Morden and Winkler. There is no public transportation to the site. Hours of operation are 8:00am-4:30pm.

Term Research Assistants, DL Seeds Morden

DL Seeds is currently looking to fill the following Term Positions for 2018:

  • Full time Term position (March - October, 2018)
  • Full time Summer Term positions (April - August, 2018)

Under the supervision of the Agronomist, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in the management and maintenance of canola research plots in Morden and surrounding area.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with seed setup and treating, plot seeding, cultivating, spraying, and harvesting
  • Operation of small plot research equipment including seeders, sprayers, and combines
  • Basic maintenance of small plot equipment
  • Assist with Data collection
  • Assist with breeding nursery events
  • Maintenance of yard and shop

To be considered for this position, you should:

  • Be completing a degree or diploma in agricultural science or related field
  • Demonstrate good attention to detail
  • Be comfortable working in an outdoor environment
  • Be willing to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required at seeding, spraying, and harvest
  • Be willing to work independently or as part of a team
  • Possess very good written and verbal communication skills
  • Have experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver's license; a valid Class 3 driver's license would be an asset
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada
